What are milia?

Milia are small white bumps that may occur following a procedure, such as a laser treatment, as a complication. These milia appear during post-procedure healing as heaped-up epithelial debris around the hair follicle becomes covered with a thin layer of epithelial cells. Milia may require removal by lancing or another procedure, increasing the risk for further complications, such as infection, scarring, or added discomfort. In a Clinical Study, use of Cleansing Complex and SHEALD Recovery Balm decreased the occurrence of milia following fractional laser treatments by eighty-five (85) percent. Re-epithelialization was fifty-four (54) percent faster and there was a forty-one (41) percent decrease in peeling/flaking.
