What are AHAs and what are their natural sources?

AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) are used in cosmetic applications for their exfoliating properties, and those derived from botanical sources can also have antioxidant benefits. The most commonly used AHAs are derived from food products including glycolic acid (from sugar cane), lactic acid (from sour milk), malic acid (from apples), citric acid (from citrus fruits), tartaric acid (from grapes, other fruits), and mandelic acid (from almonds).
