There are some situations in which consultation with a health care practitioner is advisable before using topical products. Following and/or in addition to this consultation, it is also often advisable to seek consultation with a skin care expert, such as an aesthetician. Seeking appropriate consultation(s) gives each client/patient an opportunity to discuss their individual history, their skin care needs, and to receive information best suited to their unique situation. Some of these situations may include:
A skin issue that has resulted in a medical diagnosis – for example, eczema or lupus or others.
Another medical illness now resulting in skin symptoms.
A history of skin cancer.
Recent cancer treatment, including radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy.
A very complex or long-standing issue.
Skin symptoms that fail to resolve, worsen unexpectedly, or have been very long-standing.
Any change in a skin lesion, wart, or mole.
Unexplained irritation or discomfort in a skin lesion.
