Does an active ingredient need to represent the majority of a formula to be effective?

A key ingredient or an active ingredient does not need to be the majority of a formula to be most effective. At iS Clinical, we research the scientific data on every ingredient we use and we choose the percentage at which the active performs best. This is usually in the range of 1-2% because most pure ingredients perform best at lower percentages. From a chemical and formulating standpoint, a 2% of an active ingredient that is pharmaceutical grade is in fact high. There are occasional product-specific exceptions, such as the 40% of hyaluronic acid in Poly-Vitamin Serum. Percentages used for chosen ingredients are based upon what will be most effective for the end goal of the product. In measuring and weighing out cosmetic grade ingredients utilized in other products which are of lesser ingredient quality, there is no way to compare to iS Clinical products which are pharmaceutical grade and of the highest quality and potency.
