See specific situations below.
SPECIFIC SITUATIONS IN CHILDREN:
Insect Bites—Pro-Heal Serum Advance+ may be helpful to dot onto the bite area. It may be used short-term, i.e. less than one week. If inflammation is severe, accompanied by significant swelling, or if redness and swelling are increasing, then the child’s physician should be consulted immediately.
Scars—Super Serum Advance+ may be helpful for short-term use, i.e. less than four weeks but should not be used on open wounds or wounds that have not re-epithelialized. Cleansing Complex and SHEALD Recovery Balm may be used on some open wounds, although physician consultation is recommended for large, complex, or unusual wounds. We recommend the child’s physician be consulted in case there may be contraindications to use in the individual situation. Keloids are a special type of hypertrophic scar that may occur in individuals with skin of color. Persons who form keloids will usually have a history of keloid scars and may have parents that also form keloids. If a keloid is suspected, a dermatologist should be consulted immediately. Our products do not encourage the development of hypertrophic scars or keloids.
Acne—The pre-pubertal and pubertal age groups in which acne occurs may use iS Clinical products. If a rash that looks like acne (but may not be acne) occurs in a child outside these age groups, another process may be occurring and physician consultation should be sought immediately. In all minors we recommend the skincare professional obtain parental consent before recommending products and/or aesthetic procedures for minors (under the age of 18 years).
Dermatitis, Inflammatory and Irritative Conditions—A dermatologist should be consulted for specific recommendations for the individual. Pro-Heal Serum Advance+, Eclipse SPF 50+, and Extreme Protect SPF30 may be used short-term. Guidelines and approval for their use should be obtained from the consulting physician.
Sunburn—Very young children, i.e. under the age of 4 years, should not be exposed to significant amounts of sun. Our sunscreens are designed to be safely used in most people but this fact should not replace diligent sun avoidance in young children. Sun exposure in early years has been linked to the development of actinic keratoses later in life and with skin cancer occurrence. Use of sunscreen is advised at 6mo of age, but bear in mind that the skin remains very delicate and sun exposure should be less frequent. Even one severe sunburn increases the risk of skin cancer.
Eczema—A pediatrician or dermatologist should be consulted in children with eczema before application of any product to their skin. If the child is over five years and the physician concurs, then Pro-Heal Serum Advance+ and Body Complex may be used in eczema. In cases of childhood eczema, sun exposure should be diligently avoided.
Skin Cleansing—For parents who wish to begin teaching their school-age children healthy practices for care of their skin, Cleansing Complex may be used once daily. Care should be taken to rinse off well. Eyes and mucous membranes should be carefully avoided as stinging can occur.
